J Lo and Marc Anthony 'tie the knot' in Puerto Rico

There was none of the multi-carat bling you might expect for Jennifer Lopez's wedding, and it looked as though the groom hadn't even managed to find a suit for the big day. But appearances are deceptive and this wasn't the real thing - the sultry actress was in Puerto Rico filming a scene for her latest movie El Cantante (The Singer).

By J Lo's side on location in the Caribbean was her own personal cantante, husband Marc Anthony. The couple, both of whose families originally hail from the tropical isle, are starring in a biopic based on the life of salsa legend Hector Lavoe.

The island would, undoubtedly, provide the perfect setting if the pair, who wed in June 2004, did renew their vows. Boasting the pristine beaches and crystal-blue waters that you expect in the West Indies, Puerto Rico also has an intriguing mixture of cultures that make it more than a sunseekers' paradise.

As a self-governing state in association with the United States, it is a hybrid of the old and new. On restaurant menus tasty American fare jostles with traditional dishes with names like 'sancocho'.

Visitors can also lose themselves amid the cobbled streets and magnificent buildings of its colonial Spanish towns. Meanwhile, nature lovers will be blown away by its lush interior and experiences such as a night-time swim among tiny phosporescent creatures off the coast.
