Monaco's Prince Rainier is back in his palace today after being treated for heart problems. The 80-year-old was admitted to hospital 12 days ago after doctors detected a lesion above a spot where he had bypass surgery in 1994.

It was the third time in as many months that the Monegasque ruler has been hospitalised. On February 21 he was taken to a heart and chest clinic, where surgeons repaired a troubled blood vessel. The previous month he spent three weeks at the same facility being treated for "general fatigue". And in December there was another stay at the hospital after he developed persistent flu symptoms.

Concerns over Prince Rainier's health have been a long-running issue in the Monaco. Back in 1999 he underwent heart surgery, before having two further operations in 2000 and being hospitalised once again in 2002.
