BBC began airing popular crime series Traces this week, and while many were loving the show, other fans were left feeling disappointed after realising that the series was a repeat of season one, rather than new episodes.

The drama was first shown on the UKTV Alibi channel in 2019 and it was announced last month that the BBC would be airing the show, leading some viewers to believe it was a new series.

Taking to social, a number vented their disappointment. One person tweeted: "Well I thought #Traces was a new series until I just settled down with a brew to watch. Seen it before. #disappointed."

Another added: "Was so looking forward to watching #traces tonight on BBC. Only turns out to be the exact series I watched on Alibi two years ago?! @martin_compston."

A third fan echoed this, commenting: "Been so looking forward to watching #Traces. Thirty seconds in... I've seen it before! Absolutely gutted. It's the little things that tip the bucket at the moment!"

Molly Windsor stars as the lead in the show

The show, which stars Line of Duty's Martin Compston, tells the story of three women working within the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science (SIFA): Emma Hedges (played by Molly Windsor) Prof. Sarah Gordon (played by Laura Fraser) and Prof. Kathy Torrence (played by Jennifer Spence).

The trio work together using their forensic expertise to uncover the truth about an unsolved murder. Martin plays Daniel McAfee, the love-interest of Emma, who finds himself in the middle of a criminal investigation.

Fans were also thrilled to see Martin back on their screes after the delay of series six of Line of Duty. Many even drew humorous comparisons between the actor's two leading characters, with one person joking on Twitter: "Excellent undercover work by Steve Arnott in #Traces - Hastings would be proud! Bravo Sir!!  @martin_compston @MollyWindsor97."

Another said: "#Traces is very good on BBC1 Always seems strange to hear @martin_compston speak in his mother tongue. Still can't wait till he's back speaking English in AC12. #lineofduty."
