Eddie Redmayne makes emotional speech as he accepts Leading Actor BAFTA

Eddie Redmayne was overwhelmed on Sunday night as he accepted the award for Leading Actor at the BAFTA Awards. "I would like to dedicate this wonderful award to three families," he said during his speech after winning for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

He started by singling out his own loved ones, saying: "They don't work in this wonderful trade but they have been my bedrock they have galvanised me and had amazing faith in me even when I lost it myself."

He added: "To my professional family, Felicity Jones you are a wonder. James Marsh, you took such a gargantuan punt on me thanks for that."

As his hands shook at the podium, Eddie finished his emotional speech by paying tribute to the subject of the film and his nearest and dearest.

"Really this award belongs to one incredible family who are here this evening," he said, speaking to Stephen and his loved ones. "I would like to thank them, I would like to thank them for their trust in us, their generosity and kindness and for reminding me of the great strength that comes to living a full and passionate life."

The 33-year-old, who recently married his long-term love Hannah Bagshawe in a romantic winter ceremony began his speech with a funny story of the last time he was at the British award: "I was at the BAFTAs three years ago and I had food poisoning... I redecorated the corridor of the Royal Opera House.

He finished: "That was one of the worst nights of my life - this is one of the best nights of my life."

After his win, Eddie opened up on his performance at the winner's press conference, and said that he puts his "heart and soul" into every job. He also admitted that after taking Hannah to the Golden Globe awards, his wife will still have to wait a while for a traditional honeymoon.

Herevealed that production on his next film, The Danish Girl, begins on Tuesday, and once he has finished with that then the pair will head to a beach somewhere nice.
