From Kim Kardashian's all-pink Balenciaga ensemble to Florence Pugh's incredible hot pink Valentino dress, it was without a doubt the breakout colour trend of last year, and with the release of the Barbie movie in July, it's back in full force this summer.

Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Greta Gerwig's Barbie is already one of the highest-grossing films of 2023, and now we've seen it, all we want to do is update our wardrobes with the hot pink Barbiecore pieces dropping online. All over the runways for the last few seasons, the high street has followed suit, and we're not disappointed.

Zendaya made a case for a head-to-toe hot pink power suit and platforms last year. The Euphoria star was spotted in the Barbiecore ensemble at Valentino's AW22 runway show, while more recently Margot Robbie stepped out at the Barbie premieres in a selection of hot pink looks, like this custom-made Valentino mini dress with polka dots and cut-out detail.

Florence Pugh had everyone talking with her sheer, floor-length gown last summer (by who else but Valentino?), and while we might not have an occasion to wear something quite so revealing, we're definitely taking inspiration from the hot pink hue and stunning tulle fabric. Of course, we're still obsessed with Kim Kardashian's Barbie pink trifecta of looks in late 2021, especially this Balenciaga catsuit.

Barbiecore may have entered fashion parlance in 2022 but it has been around for several years. Rapper Nicki Minaj has channelled Barbie to such an extent throughout her career, fans have dubbed her "Barbz". And the hundreds of Barbiecore Pinterest boards created since 2019 show how pink couture has captured the public's imagination.

Its 2022 surge can be ascribed to Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli whose pink-themed Valentino Fall runway show in March of that year took the fashion world by storm. The trend was further turbocharged both when Anne Hathaway attended another Valentino show wearing nothing but pink and a flood of fuchsia-clad celebrities rocked up at the Grammy's,

With the release of Greta Gerwig's much-anticipated movie in July, Barbiecore is here to stay and the unconverted may as well get on board now or face looking rather drab this "Barbie summer". So if your wardrobe is distinctly lacking in pink, check out HELLO!'s guide to the 12 things needed to perfect Barbiecore in 2023.
