As Kate Middleton stepped out in Scotland on Thursday, fashion fans were delighted to see she had opted to wear tartan, the pattern closely associated with the country.

The expectant Duchess of Cambridge dressed her blossoming baby bump in a lovely coat bearing the grey and blue plaid by British designer brand Moloh. Entitled the 'Workers Coat', the outerwear is available on the brand's website at the price of £425.

A spokesperson for the brand revealed to HELLO! Online that the coat only landed in store two weeks ago, which is when Kate snapped it up. They also spoke of their delight at seeing her in another of their designs, adding that they are "thrilled to see the Duchess supporting British fashion – everything is designed and produced on British soil. "The brunette beauty has long been a fan of the label's exclusive tailored designs, often seen browsing the flagship store on Pimlico Road to stock up on their luxury knitwear and pure silk dresses. It's likely that she chose the brand for this particular visit due to its Scottish associations – some of the clothes are produced in short runs from Scottish Mills.

She was spotted accessorising her fire engine red Alexander McQueen dress with the same scarf during the Diamond Jubilee flotilla in June 2012.

It's not the first time Kate has experimented with tartan. Her and her husband the Duke of Cambridge are known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, so on her first visit across the border in 2011, Kate acknowledged her new title by carrying a folded Strathearn tartan scarf to Prince William's Order of the Thistle ceremony.
