Alex Jones has vowed to learn to cook in a bid to become a better parent. The One Show host, who is expecting her second child with husband Charlie Thomson, revealed she was using Jamie Oliver's cookbooks for inspiration and is keen to try new recipes for her family.

Taking to Instagram Stories to share a photo of her dinner preparation, Alex wrote: "I say it every year… but this time I mean it. I need to learn to cook!! I'm a mother of nearly two children for goodness sake!! Starting basic. Cheers @jamieoliver."

Alex didn't show fans the result of her culinary efforts, but no doubt she'll be keeping them updated as she continues her mission to become a better chef. The 41-year-old often shares details of her family life on social media, and recently announced the exciting news that she is pregnant with a baby brother or sister for her son Teddy, who turns two later this month.

The doting mum has also spoken candidly about her experiences of motherhood, and even wrote a book – Winging It! Parenting in the Middle of Life – to reveal what it had been like becoming a mum shortly before her 40th birthday. Alex confessed that the first few weeks after giving birth were "pretty hellish", writing on Twitter: "The first few weeks are pretty hellish to be fair, but week 6 it felt a lot better. The book talks about the whole of the first year. Postpartum stuff/relationship stuff... all the grim bits as well as the good stuff so could be ideal for you. At least we're all in it together x."

Alex has since said she was close to depression after giving birth, and confessed she went back to work too soon, taking just three-and-a-half months maternity leave before returning to filming The One Show. "I think it's OK to say, 'Yes I'm going to go back to work'. I went back a bit too soon," she said during an appearance on Lorraine. "Before you have a baby you don't really understand how it’s going to change you. I made promises that were a sort of unrealistic. Three and a half months was very early. But we made it work."
