Robbie Williams has been admitted into a rehabilitation clinic in the US where he is being treated for dependency on prescription medication. The LA-based star booked himself in on Tuesday, his 33rd birthday, in an effort to turn his life around.

"I shall be sending him loads and loads of love as always," says his mother Jan Williams who lives in the UK. "I shall be going across at some stage, but when you're in rehab, it's a programme for the person themselves, and they have to address their own personal issues." Robbie spoke out about his problems with depression in a Stephen Fry documentary broadcast on British TV last year.

"I lost the cog to socialise," he explained in the programme. "As soon as I got off stage, I'd get back to the tour coach and go back to my bedroom and pull the duvet over my eyes."

The former Take That singer, who has amassed a personal fortune of more than £90 million, has seen his latest album Rudebox struggle to perform, and this year's Brit Awards will mark the first time in ten years he has not been nominated for best British male, album or single. Last September he called off his Asia tour due to stress and exhaustion.
