The ceremony was steeped in tradition, with Ingrid, the 15-year-old daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, looking picture-perfect in a traditional frock. For her confirmation dinner, Ingrid changed into a white evening gown that royal fashionistas may recognise; the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Sofia of Sweden have previously worn it too! Ahead of her confirmation, the Norwegian royal palace released a set of images of Ingrid and her family. The princess donned a 19th century inspired national dress, also known as a bunade, that featured colourful patterns. Her monogram and date of her confirmation were embroidered onto the woollen fabric; her grandmother Queen Sonja even knitted some of the beautiful embroidery.

© Photo: Getty ImagesBefore the ceremony, Ingrid posed with her parents Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, her younger brother Prince Sverre and her older half-brother Marius Borg Høiby in the palace's White Lounge. Ingrid was flanked by her grandparents King Harald and Queen Sonja, and also joined by her maternal grandmother, Marit Tjessem.

© Photo: Getty ImagesIngrid's royal godparents had flown into Norway to attend the confirmation at the palace, including King Felipe of Spain, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. The princess' other godparents include her grandfather King Harald, her maternal grandmother Marit Tjessem and her aunt, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway.

The service was led by the Bishop of Oslo, Kari Veiteberg, and the Preses of the Norwegian Bishops' Conference, Bishop Helga Haugland Byfuglien. Ingrid walked into the chapel with the Bishop of Oslo to the music of Antonio Vivaldi.

Mary looked stunning in a patterned summer dress that featured billowing sleeves. She accessorised with a striking purple clutch and a very on-trend purple headband.

Sami Parliament President Aili Keskitalo read Psalm 21 in a new Sami translation, with guests following along in Norwegian in the programme. Princess Martha Louise read from 1 Corinthians: "But the greatest of these is love."
In her sermon, Bishop Veiteberg spoke directly to Ingrid, praising her for her fine qualities including her commitment to the environment. Slam poet Evelyn Rasmussen Osazuwa also spoke about the natural world in her performance of "I am sick".
