The Queen and David Beckham were once again reunited on Thursday night at a special awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace. As they shook hands, Her Majesty gave David a warm smile and welcomed him to The Queen's Young Leaders Awards for 2016.

The monarch was resplendent in a printed floral dress, while the retired footballer was his usual suave self in a black suit and silk tie.

David was among star guests including Sir Lenny Henry and Jimmy Choo at the ceremony held to present medals to the 60 young winners from the Commonwealth, who are taking the lead and doing good in their communities.

It was the second time that David was attending the ceremony but the former England football captain admitted that he still got "goosebumps" every time he drove through the gates of Buckingham Palace.

Speaking to reporters outside the palace, David revealed that his four-year-old daughter Harper was "very excited" about her dad meeting the Queen again.

"I've been here a couple of times now and every time it is very special," said David. "After the school pick up today I was talking to Harper and I was like 'I'm going to see the Queen.' She was like, 'Okay but do you think she will be drinking tea.' So she was very inquisitive. I am so proud to be here."

It wasn't long before talk turned to the Euros and David admitted: "All of us, minus Victoria, have been watching it. She doesn't watch too much of it. Harper just pops in and out. But me and the boys have been watching it a lot."

At the ceremony held in the palace Ballroom, Prince Harry gave a deeply personal speech in which he praised his 90-year-old grandmother. He was joined in the audience by his cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

"I have been extremely fortunate to meet many exceptional people over the years, but none more so than Her Majesty The Queen," said Harry. "As the head of the Commonwealth, the Nation, the Armed Forces and our Family, I – like millions of others across the world – have been able to look to her for inspiration and guidance.

"The Queen, who assumed the challenge of leadership at such a young age, has shown us all the importance of selfless commitment and service. She is the example I aspire to and the standard by which I will judge my contribution."

He added: "The Queen's Young Leaders award recognises what you have achieved, not for yourselves, but for your communities, for your peers, and for those less fortunate. Your service spans a broad spectrum of fields from HIV and sexual health education, to micro finance and the recycling of hi-tech waste.

"You have already been an inspiration to so many, but I hope this award will inspire you to go out and achieve even greater things in the future, empowered by the network of leaders you now sit amongst."
