Prince William and Kate treat fans outside Lindo Wing to a sweet delivery

It wasn't the delivery they were waiting for, but royal fans gathered outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital were still delighted by a sweet delivery of cakes and pastries arranged by William and Kate on Tuesday morning. Kensington Palace has confirmed that the couple, upon hearing of those camping outside the hospital where the Duchess - née Kate Middleton - is to give birth, arranged breakfast so that the waiting crowds knew "they were thinking of them". The boxes of pastries were reportedly wrapped in a pink ribbon, in what may be a hint at the gender of the unborn child.

According to one Twitter report, royal fan Maria Scott said: "They knocked on the tent and said good morning, we have a present from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. "This isn't the first time William and Kate have shown their gratitude to royal well-wishers. Ahead of the couple’s wedding in 2011, Prince William stepped out of Clarence House to greet those who were gathering ahead of the nuptials.

The popular Prince went on an impromptu walkabout to meet crowds gathered near Buckingham Palace, shaking hands, chatting and posing for pictures. William was heard joking ahead of his big day: "All I've got to do is get the lines right. "It is thought that Kate is now several days past her due date and doctors will not want to wait too long before they induce her.

It's unlikely that the wait will last too much longer as parking restrictions around the hospital were only put into place for the month of April.

The Twittersphere is bubbling with reports that police protection officers have been seen sweeping the area outside the hospital. Other baby enthusiasts went so far as to say that a royal convoy had been seen leaving Kensington Palace accompanying an ambulance.
