Film-maker Woody Allen, regardless of tales of doom and disaster, is said to be keen to close a deal to buy a ‘cursed’ palace in Venice, the city where he married his wife Soon-Yi five years ago, and where he shot his film Everyone Says I Love You.

The property in question is the exquisite 15th-century Palazzo Dario, located on the Grand Canal. It has been the inspiration for numerous works of art, including Claude Monet’s 1908 canvas. However, buyers for the palace, attributed to Pietro Lombardo, have not been as plentiful as might have been supposed for such a desirable home.

The reason is that the palace is said to be cursed, with suicide, disease and broken fortunes littering its history. Undaunted, Venice-lover Woody is still eager to acquire the palazzo; and, owing to the difficulty of finding a suitably rich and determined purchaser, the price on the unique building has come down from nearly $11 million to a more palatable $6.4 million.
