Attention brides. You may have thought that a dress change was the only way to make a statement at your nuptials but you would be wrong.

According to TikTok the “Wedding Chop” (as it is being monikered) is the ultimate way to ensure you have a 'grand reveal' moment which will have your guests, and future spouse, totally in awe. The trend involves the bride surprising her attendees with a haircut in between the ceremony and reception, and usually even the bride’s partner isn’t in on it. Long hair for the religious ceremony and a chic Hailey Bieber-esque bob for the reception. It’s the most daring thing you could possibly do on your wedding day, and frankly we’re here for it.

Georgie suggests styling short hair with a bridal bow

“There's a TikTok trend at the moment where people are actually cutting their hair to give themselves a totally different look, which we love,” explains Georgie Le Roux, the founder of bridal gifting destination Gigi and Olive, “Brides more and more are opting for a second look, during their wedding, whether that's a change of shoes, a change of dress or removing your veil and changing your hair."

Likewise, Kendra Leaver-Rylah Co-Founder and Editor of The Wedding Edition says, “This is such a good trend and I'm literally obsessed with it. When you're getting married, you're transitioning to this whole new phase of your life and you're starting quite literally a new chapter.”

Kendra explains that a chop makes sense for the change of scene between the wedding and the reception,“Lots of people want to have a really traditional look for the ceremony, particularly if they're getting married in a religious venue and what's so lovely about the evening event is like, you know, that you can be more daring with your outfit, so why not do something daring with your hair?”

How do you style short hair on your wedding day?

If you’re thinking of going for the chop Georgie says, “It feels very refreshing and that you're really embracing a new you and we would style this with a bow to complement the new change, and style it out that way.”
