It has been confirmed that Line of Duty will begin filming season five later this year! ITV's award-winning police procedural drama, which has grown in popularity since its premiere in 2012, follows a group of police officers from AC-12, the anti-corruption unit, as they uncover corruption from within the police force. Speaking to RadioTimes about the upcoming season, Adrian Dunbar, who plays Superintendant Ted Hastings, said: "We'll be shooting the next series at the end of this year, some time in the autumn, so sadly we'll all have to wait until 2019 to find out what happens to us all. I haven't seen anything, Jed hasn't told us anything. We're all keeping our fingers crossed that we're not bumped off."

Season four ended on a cliff-hanger, leaving viewers questioning one of the show's most beloved characters, Superintendant Hastings. And the show's creator Jed Mercurio has already hinted that the new series will "delve into Hastings' past". He said: "The fact that there could be a suspicion that Hastings is 'H' is something that we want to exploit dramatically going forward." Speaking about the upcoming storyline, Martin Compston, who plays DS Steve Arnott, tweeted: "It's a long way out, hate to be that guy, but after dinner with Line of Duty master puppeteer Jed Mercurio, series five storyline is IMMENSE."

Jed has also hinted that Thandie Newton could return for season five, despite being imprisoned at the end of season four. Speaking to TV Times, he said: "It was reasonably conclusive that Roz had accepted her guilt and she was serving her sentence, but we never close the door on any living character. There are always ways in which we'd bring someone back for the right story."
