With her trademark bouffant waves, pristine makeup and daring outfits, Cheryl has long been one of the UK's foremost glam icons. But there's one style quirk fans may have noticed the singer regularly sporting – and we think we may know why. If you look at any picture of Cheryl wearing trousers, you will see that the Geordie beauty usually wears them much too long on her feet. She's been working this look since the Girls Aloud days, and most recently was spotted wearing too-long leggings in an Instagram snap taken while filming her new BBC show, The Greatest Dancer.

Wearing trousers that cover your feet can create an optical illusion of longer legs, and is a trick employed by a number of celebs. And at 5ft3, it's possible that Cheryl appreciates the look of added height. But there may also be another reason. It's previously been revealed that the mum-of-one hates her feet so much that she doesn't want them filmed or photographed.

In an interview with Fearne Cotton for Radio 1's Live Lounge in 2010, Cheryl requested the camera avoid her feet. She said: "Don't show my feet. Don't put the camera on my feet. A lot of people have foot fetishes, but they wouldn't have them over mine. They're dainty, they're a size three but there's nothing pretty about them."

Other occasions when Cheryl has been spotted wearing trousers that billow over her feet include a red carpet appearance at the Cannes film festival, and while watching the Grenfell charity football match.

It was recently announced that Cheryl, who is best known on the telly as a former X Factor judge, will sit on the panel of The Greatest Dancer. She will be joined by Glee's Matthew Morrison and Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse. The trio will make up the Dance Captains who will be on the search to find the nation's next best dancer. Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo will host the Saturday primetime show, which is due to air in 2019.
