Having returned from Rio 2016 with a gold medal around her neck, Helen Glover can now turn her attention to another very important matter – her wedding to Steve Backshall next month. Olympic rower Helen, 30, and her future husband made a special appearance on This Morning on Wednesday to talk about their upcoming nuptials.

Helen - who has dedicated the last four years to defending her Olympic title with partner Heather Stanning - told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford: "I've been so focused on the Olympics, one of the first thing Heather said to me afterwards is 'You're getting married now!'

Helen Glover and Steve Backshall are on a three-week countdown to their wedding

"Rather than a long countdown, it is going to be a three-week countdown," she said. "It is really exciting!"

Helen and Steve, 43, met at a Sport Relief event in 2014, and he proposed during a holiday in Africa one year later. They will tie the knot next month in her home county of Cornwall, surrounded by their friends and family.

Despite being nearly 6,000 miles from home, Helen revealed she still managed to fit in a hen party in Rio with her teammates, which she said was a wonderful celebration. "All the rowing girls know how to party," she confided. "We went to a samba club and went out dancing." Her adventurous fiancé, meanwhile, headed out paddleboarding with his stags ahead of the nuptials.

The happy couple have been engaged since September 2015

Deadly 60 star Steve also spoke about the moment he watched his wife-to-be cross the finishing line in first place. "It was much more emotional than I expected!" he said. "Please don't show it again!" he added, as the ITV show replayed his tearful reaction.

The couple are now looking forward to spending some quality time together - and already have some big plans for after the wedding. Steve - famous for presenting wildlife adventure shows, which have seen him swim with great white sharks, and abseil off the highest waterfall in the world - is hoping to take Helen with him on his next adventure.

"She could turn out to be madder than me!" he said. "We could definitely do big expeditions together, she's so tough, it would be like a duck to water."

Helen agreed, adding: "We're both really, really similar. I love adventure and nature and animals. That's what we have in common."
